Policy Information For Parents, Carers and Students Safeguarding Officers Every student at TSA Independent School has the right to feel safe and free from harm. You need to tell somebody if you, or another student are being harmed or are afraid of being harmed from somebody at home, at school or in the wider community. If you, or someone else are feeling unsafe, it is important to tell somebody immediately. Your initial contact is your Safeguarding Officer at your site: Lawnton Campus: Carla Deiana and Ross Johnston Riverview Campus: Jessie Weekley and Michael Matthews Mandatory Reporting Obligations Under ss.365 and 365A of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) any school staff member must immediately give a written report to the principal or principal’s supervisor when they become aware of or reasonably suspect, in the course of their employment, the sexual abuse or likely sexual abuse of a student under 18 years. The principal or principal’s supervisor must immediately give a copy of the report to the Queensland Police Service (QPS). TSA Independent Schools also have internal processes in place which are outlined in our TSA Child Protection Policy v.9.6 and Child Protection Risk Management Strategy. Both documents are available upon request. Under s.13E of the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld) teachers must give a written report to the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services (Child Safety) when, in the course of their employment, they form a reasonable suspicion that a child has suffered, is suffering or is at unacceptable risk of suffering significant harm caused by physical or sexual abuse and may not have a parent able and willing to protect the child from harm. RIVERVIEW CAMPUS The Riverview campus offers a flexible and individualized learning approach, providing students who have disengaged from mainstream education with the opportunity to reconnect with their studies. Our school supports students in completing their Year 10 and senior certificates in a more adaptable and supportive setting. We are committed to delivering flexible education pathways with a strong focus on future goals. Under The Salvation Army, we focus our efforts towards the mission of: Caring for people Building health communities Creating faith pathways and Working for Justice WE VALUE Integrity Compassion Respect Diversity Collaboration We look to our teachers to reengage students and teach within the levels of Year 11 or 12. Delivery Certificates I and II from the Foundations Skills Training package as well as Essential English, Essential Mathematics and Social Community Studies. Our team is small and everyone is required to work together to assist our students and the school in achieving success. This involves building strong respectful relationships with a range of students while utilising behaviour management techniques to maintain the expectations of the classroom. It also involves working closely with a Teacher Aide, Youth Worker and Vocational Trainer, utilising their abilities in the classroom to help students. We aim to achieve personal and academic success while preparing our students for their future, with a heavy emphasis on social-emotional learning and vocational pathways as a road map to achievement.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL We are excited to be back for our 2024 school year. Our school campuses continue to grow as we see our student numbers increase. We are blessed to be able to offer an alternative schooling experience for our young people for whom mainstream schooling has not suited their needs. Our YOS Lawnton Campus has three classes: year 10, 11 and 12. Our students there are continuing to access a range of vocational programs to support their skill development and to help with employment opportunities. Our hospitality program continues to thrive with all our year 11 students now studying for their Certificate II in Hospitality. Our Year 11 and 12 students are also participating in the Certificate II in Self Awareness and Development, delivered in partnership with Blue Print. Both Campuses welcomed new teachers this year, along with new teacher aids and a new Youth Worker to support the students' social and emotional development. The students will be completing their First Aid Training in term 2 and several students have already secured their TAFE in Schools Program for 2024. Our Year 11 and 12 students are also participating in the Certificate II in Self Awareness and Development, delivered in partnership with Blue Print.
